Maddison Butler rallying for support on what would have been Khaylan's 1st Birthday.
The last time Maddison was able to hold her precious son, before life support was turned off.
Meet Maddy
This is Maddison Butler, a mother whose world was shattered in December 2023 when her 10-month-old son, Khaylan Shayne Butler, was tragically taken from her. Khaylan was a joyful and curious baby, always full of smiles and laughter. His presence brightened every room, and his absence has left an indescribable void in the lives of those who loved him.
On that fateful day, Maddison entrusted her son to someone she believed she could rely upon. She never could have imagined that this decision would lead to such unimaginable pain. Khaylan was shaken violently and dropped into his cot, suffering severe injuries that he could not overcome. Despite the efforts of doctors, he passed away on December 3, 2023.
The individual responsible for Khaylan's death, Daniel John Ridgers, was charged with murder but later plead guilty to manslaughter. He was sentenced to six years in prison, with the possibility of parole after three years, horrifically backdated to December 2nd, 2023, Making Ridgers eligible for parole in December 2026. For Maddison and her family, this sentence feels like a mere fraction of the lifetime of love, adventures and experiences stolen from Khaylan.Â
In the wake of this tragedy, Maddison has found strength in advocating for change. She is determined to ensure that no other family endures the heartbreak she has faced. To honour Khaylan's memory, she is campaigning for "Khaylan's Law," a legislative initiative aimed at implementing stricter penalties for those who harm innocent children. Her goal is to raise awareness about the devastating consequences of shaken baby syndrome and to promote preventive measures through education and support for caregivers.
Through "Khaylan's Law," Maddison and her family, and supporters hope to create a safer environment for all children in Tasmania and beyond. By increasing awareness and understanding, they strive to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
Support for this cause is crucial. By joining the effort, sharing Khaylan's story, and advocating for legislative change, people can help turn grief into a force for good. Together, they can ensure that Khaylan's short life leaves a lasting legacy, protecting other children from harm and sparing families from the pain Maddison and her loved ones have endured.
Thank you for standing in the fight for justice and change.
